Sabah diving | Your Borneo dream

Visit Malaysia for some quality Sabah diving | Official 5 Star PADI operator

Sabah diving – Of all the diving destination around the world. I can not think of many that offer such an interesting mix of dive sites. Sabah is the largest federal state outside of peninsula Malaysia. It covers 72,000 square kilometres with a mixture of city landscapes to dense ‘Jurassic style’ jungles. With an estimated population of around 3.6 million people. Sabah can trace back human settlers back 20,000 to 30,000 years ago. The state of Sabah or Malaysian Borneo has been trading with the Chinese since 14 century AD as such it is very diverse.

With all this to one side, the state is surrounded by some amazing dive spots. Sabah diving starts on the east coast with dive spots or islands such as Sipadan, Mabul, Pom Pom and Mataking Island – to name but a few. All with very different styles of Sabah diving for you to discover and enjoy. Heading anti-clockwise around Sabah takes to islands and areas such as Seligan, Lankayan and Turtle Island. Final on your diving voyage around Sabah you meet the Tip of Borneo. Here you will find to relatively new dive spots Banggi and Balambangan this then leads you into the west coast of Sabah. Here you will find Mantanani island.

Experience a difference – Try Sabah Diving

Your journey of discovering the best Sabah diving spots has to offer is almost done. But I have saved some interesting bits for your last few days. Directly in front of the busy and majestic city of Kota Kinabalu is the local marine park of Tunku Abdul Rahman. This is home to five tropical islands great for scuba diving, snorkelling or simply island hopping. The five islands are called Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sulug. They are all set in a national marine park control by Sabah Parks. Scuba diving here is very simple and easy to book. With shallow reefs, no current but bags of things to look at. The sites are suitable for beginner to advance divers. Opportunities to see sharks, turtles, frogfish, ghost pipefish and of course Nemo.

Whether you staying in a hotel, backpackers lodge or even YTL Hotel’s Gaya Island Resort there is a massive choice of accommodation in the area and some great day and night life to entertain you.
