With the PADI Digital Underwater Photography course, we teach you the techniques and skills to take a great photo below the waves – from the camera and housing preparation, learning underwater photo techniques, composing your photos through to adjusting your photos once downloaded. A picture-perfect course!

Dive computer rental

Monitor your dives with a dive computer rental. We offer Mares Puck Pro dive computers for rental. They are very simple to use and are also Nitrox/Enriched Air capeable. The replacement cost should you lose or damage it is RM 1000.00/unit.

U/Water Digital Camera Rental

Why not capture a few underwater memories with an underwater camera rental? We offer a Nikon W300 rated to 30m or GoPro Hero 11 with an underwater housing and float handle rated to 40m. Your images will be uploaded to a Google Drive, and a link will be shared with you. Photos will be available for download for approximately ten days. Please be aware that there will be a charge for loss or damage to the camera and housing RM 2500.00

PADI Digital Underwater Photography ‘DUP’ Diver Speciality Course, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

The PADI Digital Underwater Photography ‘DUP’ Diver Speciality Course, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with Borneo Dream is a two-part (Level One and Level Two) introduction to digital underwater photography centred around today’s point-and-shoot digital cameras. The PADI Underwater Digital Photographer course helps student divers develop the knowledge, skills and practical techniques necessary to obtain excellent photographs with a digital camera, even on their first photo dive.

Learning – Prior to the course we will issue you with access to PADI’s amazing online learning system. You will fully complete your studies using the PADI Product Code 60472-1 This code will be provided once you have fully paid and issued us with your sizes etc.

The PADI Underwater Digital Photographer course has two (2) ocean dives or snorkel sessions and is one (1) day in duration. The course takes place in the safe training conditions of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

Level One of the PADI Underwater Digital Photographer course guides students in achieving good results easily, even if they’ve never used a digital camera before. In Level One, students learn about the following:

  • The equipment they need to take great underwater photographs and how to prepare their underwater housing and camera
  • Basic underwater photo techniques while diving in an environmentally friendly manner.

After students successfully complete Level One, they may move on to Level Two to learn how to make their photographs even better. Level Two expands what you need to know about the following: file formats, resolution settings, making their images lighter or darker, getting good colour, composing a photo and downloading photographs into a computer and adjusting them to look their best.

If you are not confident about your diving buoyancy then you could complete the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course first as great buoyancy and great photo skills go hand in hand. You could also consider joining a Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park Diving Trip after your PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course so you get the opportunity to practice your newfound photography skills.

PADI Course Itinerary – Digital Underwater Photography Course

Pre-study Session

As with all PADI Courses, there is some pre-study. You will need to read the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Manual, and complete all the chapter knowledge reviews, before starting your PADI Course.

Day 1

You will meet our Dive crew at 8:45am at Jesselton Point Jetty in central Kota Kinabalu. Please refer to your Booking Email for your meeting location arrangements. Please beware our boats will depart on time and should miss your collection you will need to contact our office on +60178118149 immediately.

Today you will complete the two-course dives in our local marine park, with lunch on a tropical island. There will be one-course dive in the morning and one-course dive after lunch. You will be dropped back at Jesselton Point Jetty in central Kota Kinabalu around 15:30/16:00.

Course Pre-Requisites – PADI Digital Underwater Photographer

The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course is open to snorkelers and certified divers. If you are snorkelling you can be any age, but if you are diving then you have at least a PADI Open Water Diver qualification.

What’s included?

  • PADI Digital Underwater Photographer eLearning PADI Product Code 60472-1 and Certification (upon successfully completing the course)
  • Two open water course dives (for certified divers), OR, two snorkelling training sessions (for snorkelers)
  • Free use of our rental dive gear (mask, snorkel, full foot fins, BCD, 3mm shorty tropical wetsuit, regulator and gauges) or rental snorkel gear
  • Lunch (choose from a choice of local dishes)
  • Small groups with a low Instructor to Student ratio, often lower than 1:4
  • Free flow water on our boats
  • Instruction in English, Malay or Chinese
  • Boat transfers from Jesselton Point Jetty in central Kota Kinabalu (and Jesselton Point jetty fee)
  • Sabah Parks permit and fee.

Notes – PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

PADI Liability Forms and a PADI Medical Form must be signed by the participant before the PADI Course starts. You need to have minimum 18 hours free after diving before flying on a plane or changing altitude > 300 metres, in line with PADI safety standards.

Any participant under 18 years is supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
