During this tailored 2D1N trip you will visit Kundasang and experience its nearby attractions – Kinabalu Park, Desa Dairy Cattle Farm, Poring Hot Springs. There’ll also be some added fun on the way home with a visit to the Upside Down House and 3D Wonders Museum. A great choice for families, friends and groups. Minimum 4 persons per trip currently.

Overnight trip to Kinabalu Park & Kundasang, Sabah

For those wanting to visit Kinabalu Park and Kundasang during your holiday to Sabah, Borneo then this 2D1N Trip is your ideal choice with lots of additional extras thrown in. It is an ideal trip for families, or groups of friends, wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kota Kinabalu and get to see more of the mountains and rural life of Sabah.

During this 2D1N trip, you will get to visit Kinabalu National Park, Poring Hot Springs, Desa Cattle Farm, The Upside Down House (Rumah Terbalik) and the 3D Wonders Museum – all whilst enjoying amazing views during your transfers as you drive across the Crocker Mountain Range, home to the magnificent Mount Kinabalu.

During your first day, after a short break at Nabalu Market, your first stop will be at Kinabalu Park Headquarters. At Kinabalu Park, you will enjoy a guided walk along with one of the many marked trails (typically Silau- Silau Trail) and a trip to the botanical garden – where hopefully you will see some orchids in bloom. After lunch, you will visit Desa Cattle Farm before checking into your hotel later in the afternoon.

On your second day, you will visit Poring Hot Springs in the morning. At Poring Hot Springs you can relax in the sulphuric mineral water – the ‘hot’ springs – that is claimed to have curing powers. You also enjoy a walk along the canopy walk which provides an amazing way to view the forest from high up in the impressive Mengarris trees. You can also choose to visit the butterfly farm or visit the orchid conservation area at Poring Hot Springs (conservation entrance fees apply for both). After lunch, you will start your journey back to Kota Kinabalu. On the way back you will visit a one of its kind in Sabah – the Upside Down House – and have fun taking photos in the 3D Wonders Museum. A fun way to end your trip to Kinabalu Park & Kundasang.

Kundasang Sabah Package – 2D1N Kinabalu Park & Kundasang

Day 1 (Meals: L & D)

08:00 You will be collected from your hotel in central Kota Kinabalu and start your journey to Kinabalu Park Headquarters, a ~ 2-hour journey by road. You will have a brief stop at Nabalu Market on the way which provides an ideal opportunity to check out local handicrafts, fruits and take a picture of mighty Mount Kinabalu at the mountain views.

~10:00 Arrive at Kinabalu Park and join a guided walk in the Botanical Garden. You will then join a guided trek along a marked trail in Kinabalu National Park (typically Silau- Silau Trail). The trek will last about 40 min – 1 hour depending on the weather and walking pace.

12:30 Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the Kundasang area.

13:30 – 14:00 After lunch, you will visit Desa Cattle Dairy Farm. Here you there are activities such as feeding the calves with bottled milk and learning how milk is processed.

15:30 Transfer to your hotel & check-in.

This evening you will enjoy dinner at your hotel which will be a Set Dinner / Buffet Dinner. Overnight at accommodation near Kinabalu Park (your accommodation will be Kinabalu Pine Resort or Cottage Hotel subject to availability).

Day 2 (Meals: B & L)

08:00 Breakfast at your hotel and check out of your room.

09:00 Start your journey to Poring Hot Spring, ~ 45-minute journey by road.

~10:00hrs: You will have a couple of hours at Poring Hot Springs where you can go on an uphill walk through the Borneo tropical rainforest to the 37 meters high treetop Canopy Walkway. As you cross the Canopy Walkway you’ll experience the beauty of the rainforest up close. Take a dip in the sulphur-rich water tub or visit the Butterfly Farm (entrance fee not included).

12:30 Go for lunch at a local restaurant in the Ranau area, close to Poring.

13:30 Start your journey back to Kota Kinabalu. On the way back, you will visit the Upside Down House / Rumah Terbalik and the 3D Wonders Museum. In the 3D Wonders Museum, you can have lots of fun taking some very cool photos.

~17:00 Expected arrival time back at your hotel in central Kota Kinabalu (subject to traffic).

Trip Exclusions

RM5 fee per camera and RM30 fee per video camera for the Canopy Walkway at Poring Hot Springs. The conservation entrance fee if you choose to visit either the Butterfly Farm or the orchid conservation area at Poring Hot Springs. Drinks not included as part of the meals, extra snacks, personal spend.

Recommended Packing List For The Trip

Binoculars, camera, insect repellent, long sleeve shirts & long pants, raincoat, sun hat and sun protection cream, swimwear and towel (for the ‘hot springs’), comfortable walking shoes, water bottle, personal spend, change of clothes and toiletries for overnight stay.

If a Rafflesia is in bloom near Poring then the itinerary could be adapted to include a visit to see the flower (an extra charge will be applicable for viewing a Rafflesia on private property).

  • What is there to do in Kota Kinabalu in 2 days?

    Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, is the starting point for most holidays to Sabah. From Kota Kinabalu, most visitors go to explore other parts of Sabah whether it be on a tour from Kota Kinabalu (to go rafting, biking, climbing Mount Kinabalu etc.), or via a short internal flight to visit other parts of Sabah like the Kinabatangan River or Danum Valley. If you have a couple of days free in Kota Kinabalu during your holiday then there is surprisingly quite a bit you can do and see on your doorstep.

    On the first day, you can explore the city with its many attractions. At the start of the day visit the Kota Kinabalu Wetland Ramsar Site, a bird sanctuary close to the city centre. You could then choose to walk up Signal Hill to enjoy views out over the City from Signal Hill observatory platform, visit the Sabah State Museum for a walk through Sabah’s history or explore the handicraft market located on the waterfront. Visit the Atkinson Clock Tower, the oldest building in Kota Kinabalu, or one of the famous Mosques in Kota Kinabalu – Kota Kinabalu City Mosque (‘Floating Mosque’) or the State Mosque. Later in the day watch the sunset from Tanjung Aru Beach before heading back into the city centre for a spot of early evening shopping. Finally, choose from one of the many local cafes and restaurants for a tasty meal to end the day. 

    For your second day visit the local islands in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. The Marine Park is located in front of Kota Kinabalu and easily accessible via a boat transfer from Jesselton Point Jetty. You can choose to join an organised day tour to help you get the most from your visit to the Marine Park whether it be a Snorkeling Trip or going scuba diving to explore the tropical waters. You could also choose to visit the islands independently via an island transfer service and chill out on one of the public beaches on the islands in the Marine Park. Sun, tropical sea, sand – a perfect way to spend a second day in Kota Kinabalu.

  • How far is Kota Kinabalu from the Airport?

    The Kota Kinabalu International Airport KKIA (airport code BKI) is located to the south of the city and is 8.5 kilometres from the city centre. This journey can be easily done by private car, taxi or shuttle bus. A taxi will charge around RM 30 each way for a pre-booked taxi. Arrivals are on the lower level with departures on the upper level. At busy times allow 30 minutes from the city centre to the airport.

  • Is it easy to get from the city centre to Jesselton Point Jetty?

    Most watersports trips depart from Jesselton Point Jetty (https://g.page/JesseltonPoint) in central Kota Kinabalu. If you are staying at a city centre hotel or guest house you will often find it far quicker to walk to Jesselton Point. If you are staying at hotels or resorts such as Shangri-La Rasa Ria or Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa then I would certainly grab a taxi.
