The Borneo Rainforest 5D4N package is a perfect choice for those wanting total jungle immersion during their holiday in Borneo, whilst staying in charmingly rustic yet luxurious lodge accommodations. Borneo Rainforest Lodge is located alongside the Danum River flowing through Sabah’s largest protected Lowland Rainforest – Danum Valley Conservation Area. The lodge is around a 2-3 hour drive from the small town of Lahad Datu. Its remote location amid Danum Valley makes it the perfect setting for seeing wildlife and experiencing the natural beauty of the pristine rainforest.
Borneo Rainforest Lodge has a maximum of 60 guests staying there at any one time (30 rooms). This provides an ‘exclusive’ experience, complemented by personalised service, guided by experienced Nature Guides, and good-quality local dishes served at the Lodge’s open-plan restaurant. After a hard day of exploring, what better way to end the day than relaxing in the Lodge’s bar, taking in the views and enjoying a cool drink (or two) whilst listening to the soothing sounds of the forest in Danum Valley?
Borneo Rainforest Lodge – Trekking, Tubing, Canopy Walkway, or Just Chilling Out
During your stay at Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley, you can do as much or as little as you want. During the day, join guided treks with your Nature Guide as you search for flora and fauna found in the surrounding rainforest in Danum Valley. There is a range of trails accessible from the Lodge, ranging in distance from 0.5 km to 3.0 km. As Danum Valley Conservation Area is home to more than 340 species of Birds, 124 species of Mammals, 72 species of Reptiles, 56 species of Amphibians and 200 species of plants per hectare, you can expect to see some pretty amazing wildlife. Alternatively, you can choose to unwind and sit back, relaxing on your outdoor balcony while taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding rainforest. The choice is yours.
Besides the day trekking, you can go on Night Treks in search of nocturnal life, go tubing along the Danum River, visit an ancient Kadazan-Dusun Tribal Burial Cliff or go for a walk along the Canopy Walkway. The Canopy Walkway near Borneo Rainforest Lodge features multiple viewing platforms, spanning approximately 360m in length and reaching a height of 27m at its highest point, offering an up-close view of the 130-million-year-old rainforest canopy found in Danum Valley.
At Borneo Rainforest Lodge, four types of chalets are offered. The chalet types we sell via our website are the Standard Chalet (Jungle View) and Deluxe Chalet (River View or Jungle View, with air conditioning). Both chalets are similar in layout, offering spacious rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The Deluxe Chalets are 20% larger, with a private balcony and an outdoor hot tub. Borneo Rainforest Lodge also offers Premium Deluxe Rooms and Premium Villas – prices for these are available upon request.

Trip Itinerary – Borneo Rainforest Lodge (5D4N), Danum Valley
DAY 1
Your day begins with a warm welcome at Lahad Datu Airport (the recommended flight BKI-LDU is the MY3012 ETA 8:15 am). Then, head to the lodge’s Lahad Datu office for a quick registration, briefing, and safety overview.
Join a road journey to W Bay Payang. On arrival, you’ll enjoy a tasty breakfast by the water. Next, join a boat ride to the mesmerising Blue Rings Reef and colourful Laila Reef. Here, you’ll have the chance to snorkel along a vibrant, shallow coral reef and see colourful tropical fish. Enjoy a relaxing surface interval on the boat whilst enjoying the views of Darvel Bay.
You’ll return to the coast, where you’ll have a chance to shower and enjoy a relaxing seaside lunch. At 2:00 pm, you’ll start your 2.5-hour journey (joining a shared scheduled transfer) inland to Danum Valley and begin the next chapter of your adventure. Upon arrival at Borneo Rainforest Lodge, settle into your accommodation. You’ll start your rainforest adventure with a guided activity in the dark, either on a Night Walk or a Night drive. PLEASE NOTE: There is an option for guests to NOT join the morning snorkel trip to Blue Rings Reef on day 1. Advance notice is required if you wish to switch to this option (Mount Silam option). Instead, after breakfast at W Bay Payang, you will be taken to visit the lookouts on Mount Silam. Mount Silam is known for its rare ecosystem and stunted mossy trees. From the lookout points, enjoy views of the Darvel bay archipelago. Join a guided trek through the highland forest. Keep an eye out for the endemic Red Crabs, exotic Pitcher Plants, Hornbills and Red Leaf Monkeys. After the trek, you’ll be transferred back down to W Bay Payang for lunch. After lunch, all guests will join the scheduled 2.5-hour journey inland to the lodge in Danum Valley.
DAY 2 (Meals: B/L/D)
07:00hrs: Breakfast at the Lodge
9:00hrs: Join a guided trek to the Kadazandusun burial site – Coffin Cliff, then trek to the View Point for a bird’s eye view of the area. For those wanting a longer trek, continue onward to Fairy Falls and enjoy scenic views. Take a rejuvenating break by the Natural Jacuzzi pool.
12:30hrs: Lunch at the Lodge
In the afternoon, choose from optional activities: join a guided jungle trek or, weather permitting, explore the 314-metre-long Canopy walkway suspended 27 meters above ground, offering panoramic views of the rainforest canopy.
19:00hrs: Dinner at the Lodge
20:30hrs: Join a Night Walk or a Night Driver in search of nocturnal animals

DAY 3 (Meals: B/L/D)
07:00hrs: Breakfast at the Lodge
09:00 hrs: Join a morning jungle trek along the Segama Trail to discover an estimated 500-year-old strangling fig tree.
12:30hrs: Lunch at the Lodge
In the afternoon, join a gentle River Rafting experience along the Danum River. Alternatively, you can choose to relax at the Lodge.
19:00hrs: Dinner at the Lodge.
21:00hrs: Join a Night Walk or a Night Drive in an open-air jeep in search of nocturnal animals

09:00hrs: Optional – Jungle trekking (Belian, Elephant or Ginger Trail) or chill-out time. Check out of your chalet by 11:30hrs.
11:30hrs: Lunch at the Lodge
12:30 – Depart from the lodge on the scheduled transfer to Lahad Datu, a 2-and-a-half-hour drive. You can be dropped off in Lahad Datu town or at Lahad Datu Airport (you may book the MY3019 flight departing at 5.35 pm).
Trip Pre-requisites – Borneo Rainforest Lodge (5D4N), Danum Valley
There are no specific prerequisites for joining the 5D4N Borneo Rainforest Lodge Package. However, we recommend that you have average fitness or above and be comfortable trekking for a couple of hours in tropical conditions. For younger children, the elderly and those with a lower fitness level, you can choose the self-guided nature trail on an elevated boardwalk (rather than joining the guided treks along some of the 22 marked trails). Upon arrival at Borneo Rainforest Lodge, you will be asked to complete a liability form.

Recommended Packing List For The Trip – at Borneo Rainforest Lodge
Bring clothing suitable for a tropical environment and any personal items you may need. Some essential items include light clothing, a pair of leech socks, trekking shoes/boots, a pair of binoculars, a walking stick, a small backpack, a raincoat/poncho for the river/water activities, a flashlight/head torch for the night walk, dark long-sleeved clothing for the night drive, sunscreen lotion with a high SPF, insect repellent, a camera, a hat, sandals/flip flops, toiletries, first aid and personal medication. For the coastal trip on day 1 (for trips starting from 1st April, 2026), please bring a small dry bag, clothing to protect you from the sun (reef-safe sunscreen), swimwear and a towel if you wish to go in the sea, a reusable water bottle and a change of clothes.
Notes – Borneo Rainforest Lodge Package, Danum Valley
Encounters with wildlife in their natural habitat are abundant in Danum Valley. However, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Leeches are plenty on all trails, and you should use leech socks when trekking in Danum Valley.
There are safety measures in place for the Blue Rings Reef snorkelling activity – you need to be 12 years or older and comfortable snorkelling in open water to join this activity.
