You'll start your tour by joining a ~ 3 hour trek in the morning through rainforest (including trekking to the highest point on Pulau Gaya), enjoy a relaxing lunch break at a cafe located next to a beach on Pulau Gaya, followed by a shorter ~ 1 hour gentle trek around a couple of bays and by mangroves in the afternoon.
Pulau Gaya is the largest island located in Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Pulau Gaya derived its name from the Bajau word "Gayo" which means big. Pulau Gaya is covered with dense virgin, tropical forest and has been designated as a forest reserve since 1923. The island has 20 km of hiking trails of which you'll trek ~ 9km during your trekking day tour (7km in the morning, 2km in the afternoon). Your Trekking Guide also has the option to adapt the jungle trekking route during the day tour.

The jungle trekking route is graded as Moderate - you'll be trekking on a marked trail which includes some rough / steeper sections. The first section (~ 1 hour of trekking) involves jungle trekking up to the highest point on Pulau Gaya and is slightly challenging. It is recommended you have an average level of fitness or above to get the most enjoyment from this trekking day tour.

Trip Itinerary - Trekking on Pulau Gaya
The outline itinerary for the Pulau Gaya Jungle Trekking Day Tour is as follows:-
08:50: Collection from Jesselton Point Jetty by our Boat Crew and transfer out into the local marine park. You will be provided with a full boat safety briefing by our crew on boat along with the days agenda.
Let the Jungle Trekking begin...
09:20: Arrive at Base Camp Jetty on Pulau Gaya. Jungle Trek for about ~ 2.5 to 3 hours from Base Camp up t the highest peak before jungle trekking to Padang Point taking in the wildlife, sights and sounds. There will be opportunities for resting along the trek.
~12:00 noon: You will arrive at Padang Point for your relaxing lunch break. After lunch at the cafe at Padang Point, and a well earned drink, you can choose to go for a swim in the sea at Padang Point or chill out on the beach before lunch (changing facilities and toilets are accessible at Padang Point). Optional add on to your Jungle Trekking Tour - you could go on a Zip Line Ride, the Coral Flyer, from Gaya to Sapi Island (an extra charge is applicable) during your lunch break.
~14:00: You will re-group and start your gentle easy trek from Padang Point to Base Camp. This trek is only slightly undulating and skirts around two bays.
~15:00: Arrive at Base Camp. Time just to quickly dip your toes in the sea before going to the end of the jetty to catch our boat transfer
15:30 - 16:00: Arrive back at Jesselton Point Jetty after you Jungle Trek Day Tour Adventure with Borneo Dream :-)
Minimum 4 persons per trip. For the jungle trekking you need to be in good health, physically fit and comfortable at trekking for 2 - 3 hours in a tropical climate (with stops along the way). We recommend children should be minimum 10 years old to join this trekking day tour.

Recommended Packing List - Jungle Trekking Adventure on Pulau Gaya
Comfortable jungle trekking shoes, water bottle (minimum 2 litre), energy snacks, insect / mosquito repellent, sun protection cream, camera, small dry bag (or plastic bag inside a small rucksack), trekking hat, personal medication (as required).
A Liability Release Form must be signed before the trek commences. Any participant under 18 years is supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Please note there is no Porter service available for this jungle trekking adventure so you will carry your own ruck sack throughout the tour (we suggest you make it as light as possible).
