The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course focuses on three key areas – building on your learning from the PADI Open Water Diver Course and helping you to think like a diver, providing an introduction to speciality diving and learning how to dive safely to a depth of 30 metres. It is aimed at PADI Open Water Divers (or equivalent) who are wanting to progress their diver education and become an advanced open water diver. It is a 2 day course involving five course dives (including a deep dive and a navigation dive). Upon successfully completing the course you will be a certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and qualified to dive up to a maximum depth of 30m.
Take your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course with Borneo Dream will be completed in the tropical waters of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo. Each dive on the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course represents the first dive of the associated PADI Speciality course. For example, if you completed the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy dive as one of your five PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course dives, you would just need to complete a second PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course dive to complete this PADI Speciality course. The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course is for those aged 15 years old and above. For Certified PADI Junior Open Water Divers aged between 12 – 14 years they will complete the PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver Course. This is the same course structure – the main difference being a PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver will be certified to dive to 21 metres.

Typical Itinerary for the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course in Kota Kinabalu
As with all PADI Courses there is some pre-study. However, with PADI Advanced Open Water the manual is relatively painless and most of the chapters you will find enjoyable and easy going. Out of the many chapters in the manual you only need to read 5 and complete 5 associated knowledge reviews. Two of them will be Deep Diver and Underwater Navigation Diver, the other three will be determined by you and Borneo Dream’s Instructor. Please refer to Borneo Dream prior to starting to read other chapters.
You could also choose to complete your study on-line in advance of your holiday via PADI eLearning. You’d then just need two days in Kota Kinabalu to complete the PADI eLearning Advanced Open Water Diver Course.
You will meet our Dive crew at 8:45am at Jesselton Point Jetty in central Kota Kinabalu. Please refer to your Booking Email for your meeting location arrangements. Today you will complete two of your five PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course dives in our local marine park, with lunch on a tropical island. Depending upon your understanding of the academic side of things more reviews and learning may take place over lunch.
Today will be a bit more exciting as you will complete two dives before lunch and one after.
PADI Course Pre-requisites
This course is open to all those with a PADI Open Water Diver Certification (12 years or older) or similar. You will need to certify you are in good health to go scuba diving.

PADI Liability Forms and a PADI Medical Form must be signed by the participant before the PADI Course starts. You need to have minimum 18 hours free after diving before flying on a plane, or changing altitude > 300 metres, in line with PADI safety standards.
Any participant under 18 years is supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
