“Absolutely first-class diving training”

I've recently completed the PADI Open Water Diver course with Borneo Dream Travel after almost a decade of putting off learning. From the moment I set foot in their office to inquire I was welcome and it was for this, their friendliness and their clear expertise that I chose them over all the other dive centres in Kota Kinabalu.

My instructor had over 20 years experience but still had the excitement of someone just starting to Scuba dive: he was patient with my mistakes and explained them in various ways to ensure I understood; he had thorough knowledge of the waters, the life, tides, weather and everything that could affect our dives; and, knew when to step back so that I solidify my understanding on my own. Bas, if you're reading this, thank you! But also thank you to everyone on the boat - I wish I grabbed your names - who made the intense days so fun.

An incredible and actually life-changing experience for really good value for money. I would seriously recommend these guys to anyone interested in going out on the water while in KK.

Stayed as a group of 3 families consisting of 6 adults and 5 kids aged 8-12. Our stay was amazing - well above all expectations. We witnessed a huge array of animals in their natural habitat, ate delicious and plentiful food (even for fussy kids), enjoyed spacious, comfortable rooms (loved the outdoor shower), appreciated the wealth of knowledge of our guides and loved experiencing the natural beauty of the rain forest. We were even treated to an amazing thunderstorm which we woke to. The friendly service and attention to detail from staff was impeccable. It truly was a wonderful life experience for all within our group. I'd definitely recommend and would readily rate it 5 out of 5. Thank you for a magical stay!

I have never tried SCUBA diving before but Kat Kinabalu is well known for its amazing undersea world and so I thought, why not?

I was a little bit difficult to find the crew on the day I go diving but soon I recognise them with their red polo shirt. I was guided by Markson throughout the journey. His English was very fluent and his instruction was very clear. He was a fun guy with good sense of humor. I really enjoyed his company. I did not interact too much with other crew and they were busy guiding their divers.

I first had a diving trial in a shallow area in the morning. I was taught the basic skills to use the equipment and some other hand gestures. After that, we dived for a little longer and we went to an Island Resort to have lunch. I also purchased the zip flying and went for it after lunch. It was OK but nothing special actually. I went for another dive in the afternoon. This time we dived a little deeper and I had the chance to admire the beautiful undersea world. I was superb.

All in all, the organisation was well done, my mentor was friendly and helpful.

I am diver
Spent three and a half days over Chinese New Year with these guys to get my PADI open water certificate. I had a great time. All the crew were friendly and fun but especially my instructor, Amir. He was patient but also challenging and allowed me to learn at a good pace without feeling unsafe at any time. The dives were great although I didn't get to see any turtles as promised (Boo). Next time. We were shown some beautiful reefs with lots of good coral & aquatic life and there was plenty of time to have a good look.
Lunch was provided on Gaya Island and it was delicious and filling. The curries were especially good.
I would recommend these guys for any new divers looking to get their PADI qualifications. They are safe, professional, fun, knowledgeable and even have great taste in music. Queen's greatest hits on the boat ride back to the jetty was a bonus. ;)

What a way to start the diving trip
We stayed at the Gaya Island Resort last night and had booked to dive with Borneo Dream this morning.

The skipper and dive team were punctual, prepared, well organised and focussed. Kit ready to go, (we'd sent our fitting details a couple of months back) , boat clean and tidy and well stocked with spares, weights, water, post dive snacks and so on.

We were out on the dive site on time and in the water swiftly. 4 of us in the party, one of our friends hasn't dived for some years and they were well cared for. Plenty of focus by our dive lead, no rush and all well timed.

We indicated we were due back on the mainland to catch a bus and this was catered for as well.

Just a shame that we're not staying longer this time. The dives were splendid, a storm had come in overnight so we lost the viz a bit but it was still delightful to get in the water. We saw, she saw, they saw.... every dives different so get a trip in and enjoy it.
