Become a deep diver with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu
Deep diver – One of the first things new divers want to do or ask about is how deep can I go? As a qualified PADI Open Water Diver, you are restricted by training and possibly your travel insurance to 18 metres. This does not seem a lot but you are probably sitting in a room now with only 2-metre high ceiling. Multiply that by 9… do you still want to deeper than that?
After the PADI Open Water Diver course, most divers head on to the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. Upon successful completion of this, you will be certified to a depth of 30 metres. If you were to tag on the PADI Deep Diver Speciality Course this could extend your diving range to 40 metres. So, a typical timetable or schedule could look like this:
Path to a deep diver | PADI Advanced Open Water + PADI Deep Diver Speciality Course
- Day 1 – Complete 3 open water dives such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Boat and Navigation.
- Day 2 – Complete 2 open water dives such as Deep #1 and maybe Photography
- Day 3 – Complete 2 open water dives such as Deep #2 and Deep #3 – Getting close to becoming a Deep Diver
- Day 4 – Complete 2 open water dives such as Deep #4 and ‘Leisure/Fun Dive’
This would be a very neat and compact way of getting your certified diving depth up. Raising it from 18 metres to the recreational dive limit of 40 metres. Whenever you start down deep diver path it is important to gain experience. And by this we mean gain your deep-diving experience in a slow and controlled manor. Always monitor your air supply and dive conservatively. As you are aware of your past training you air consumption with greatly increase as your depth increases. Your air consumption will also increase due to the hidden stresses related to deeper diving.
