Diving that is World Class

Sabah is home to many famous dive sites - from Sipadan, first explored by Jacques Cousteau, Layang Layang's stunning reef drop-offs to the jewel like tiny islands of Mantanani and Lankayan. The following links are to pages of more detailed information about each of these.

Mantanani Island

Mantanani is a group of 3 isolated islands north west of Kota Belud, on the West coast of Sabah. Crystal clear blue waters lapping on sandy beaches surrounded by tall coconut palms. All creating a paradise not to be forgotten. BorneoDream offer full day diving tours and mini safaris to Mantanani . . . . More

Lankayan Island

A jewel like tiny island in the Sulu Sea, north of Sandakan. Lankayan has been declared part of a Marine Protected Area. Covered by thick tropical vegetation, this peaceful, untouched piece of paradise is ringed by pure white sandy shores . . . . More

Layang Layang

An atoll situated in the South China Sea, 300km north-west of Kota Kinabalu. The island was constructed for the Malaysian Navy and later developed in to a dive resort, Layang-Layang Island Resort. The extreme location of Layang-Layang provides for pristine reefs, superb visibility, reef drop-offs down to 2000km and regular sightings of pelagics. It is renowned as being one of the top ten dive locations in the world . . . . More

Sipadan

Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, rising 2,000 feet from the seabed. It is located in the Celebes Sea, at the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin, the centre of one of the richest marine habitats in the world. Greater than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species are found here. Experience the wonder of Green turtles and Hawksbill turtles nesting and mating, schools of barracuda & big-eye trevally and pelagic species such as manta rays and scalloped hammerhead sharks. Mabul

An island off the south-eastern coast of Sabah in Malaysia. It has gained a reputation as one of the best "muck diving" sites in the world. Mabul Island is a small oval shaped island surrounded by sandy beaches and a larger 2 square kilometers reef. The reef is on the edge of the continental shelf and the reef slopes out to 25 to 30m. Kapalai Island

A few minutes by boat from the islands of Sipadan and Mabul lays the exhilarating Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort, sitting on stilts on the sandbanks of the Ligitan Reefs. It is an airy, comfortable, sunny water village with no land in sight and boasts a mile-long sandbank of powdery white sand where you can lay and gaze out to the brilliant turquoise sea stretching out into the horizon.
