Mataking Island is located in the Celebes Sea off the south east coast of Sabah, Borneo and can be reached in 40 minutes by speedboat from Semporna. Mataking Island is actually comprised of two small islands (Mataking and Mataking Kecil - or "Small Mataking") which are surrounded by clear, tropical turquoise waters and fringed by white sandy beaches. In the waters around the island you will find an wide range of dive sites which are home to a wide range of macro life, pelagics and beautiful colourful coral reefs.

Mataking Island is home to the Reef Island Resort - the only Resort to be located on this beautiful island paradise. Mataking Island is a perfect choice for both the scuba divers and non-divers. Divers can enjoy scuba diving a selection of the 30 or so dive sites around Mataking Island and its surrounding islands of Pandanan, Timba-timba, the Tun Sakaran Marine Park of Bohaydulong, Bohayan, Kalapuan, Baturua and Mantabuan island. The dive sites off a combination of slope and wall diving. There is also a wreck to dive to enjoy as well - the "Mataking 1", an old 40ft wooden cargo ship which was sank by the Resort in 2006. The wreck is now an artificial reef and home to a range of tropical fish species.
Mataking Island is located relatively close to Sipadan, Sabah's most famous scuba diving destination. The Alice Channel, which is about 100 meters deep, connects Mataking to Sipadan Island. Sipadan is just 80 minutes boat ride away. For pelagic and Turtle fans, diving day trips can be pre-arranged to Pulau Sipadan (at extra charge, needs to be reserved in advance).
For non-divers there are a wide range of activities to choose from. These include spa treatments at the Jamu Spa, kayaking, canoeing, jungle-trekking or just chilling out on the white sandy beach surround Mataking Island. The Reef Dive Resort at Mataking Island, Sabah, Borneo has a total of 37 rooms consisting of Villa, Chalet, Premier Deluxe and Deluxe. Deluxe/Premier Deluxe rooms are individual rooms linked/joined together in a traditional long house type while Chalet rooms are single bungalows raised on its own stilts providing more privacy (+ 685 to 705 sq.ft). The luxurious Villas are the latest addition and are individual beach houses overlooking the Celebes sea.
