Your PADI Open Water Diver course with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia takes 3 days to complete (assuming all required pre-study is completed). During your PADI Open Water Diver course you will complete the following:

Pre-study activities before you start your PADI Open Water Diver course - reading five (5) chapters in the PADI Go-Dive manual and completing the five (5) associated Knowledge Reviews.
- Completing five (5) multiple choice quizzes and final exam.
- Five (5) confined water sessions and some small water stamina tests.
- Finally, four (4) ocean dives to a maximum of 18m (for those aged 14 years, or less, this is reduced to 12m).
For your PADI Open Water course you need to complete the study phases before you start the pool/ocean sessions. If you are interested in completing the study phase prior to reaching Kota Kinabalu, Sabah then choose the Diver referral option or PADI e-Learning.
There are some pre requisites for the PADI Open Water Diver course:
- You also need to be 10 years or older.
- To become a scuba diver, you need to be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills - As part of the PADI Open Water Diver Course in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah you will be required to do a 10 minute float in water to deep to stand up in and a 200m 'free style' swim. There is no time limit for the swim test.
- You should also be in good overall general health to dive, particularly your respiratory and circulatory system. You will be asked to self-certify before starting a course or entering the water.
- You need to have completed some pre-study before you start the PADI Open Water course.

- A Risk and Medical Statement is signed by the participant (in the case of under 18's by the Parent or Guardian)
- Any participant under 18 years is supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
- You will be supervised by a PADI Dive Professional that will be with you at all times throughout the days activity. All are in active teaching status, fully paid up members of PADI and fully insured for your safety and peace of mind with DAN (Diver Alert Network).
