PADI Junior Open Water Diver Course, It's never to early to start - Family Diving!
Are you coming on family holiday to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and you would like to learn to dive with your children? For children aged 10 - 14 years we offer the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course.
Parents, or children 15 years and above, complete the standard PADI Open Water Diver course - you can even complete the courses from our boat together as a family. Three fun filled days of learning to scuba dive together in the tropical waters of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The PADI Junior Open Water Diver Course allows your child to become a certified diver and qualified to dive to 12 metres. It normally takes 3.5 days to complete (0.5 day for pre study and 3 days on our boat). As a PADI Junior Open Water Diver there are some age limitations for scuba diving:
- Junior Open Water Divers aged 10-11 years old must dive with a PADI Professional or certified parent/guardian. Dives must not exceed 12 metres /40 feet.
- Junior Open Water Divers ages 12-14 years old must dive with a certified adult.

As children will typically be diving with their parents as part of a guided diving trip these 'limitations' do not really impact the fun you can have together as a scuba diving family.
Our PADI Junior Open Water Diver course is conducted in the tropical waters of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Kota Kinabalu - we can not think of a better place for your child to learn to dive!
During the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course your child completes exactly the same confined skill sessions, open water dives and study as the standard course. The only difference is the depth limitation to 12m. Our PADI Junior Open Water Diver course includes the following:
- Completing five (5) multiple choice quizzes and a final exam.
- Five (5) confined water skill sessions. During these you learn a range of scuba diving skills.
- Some small water stamina tests - a 10 minute float in water to deep to stand up in and a 200m 'free style' swim. There is no time limit for the swim test.
- Finally, four (4) ocean dives to a maximum of 12m. Go diving along pretty reefs and see a wide variety of marine life (including Nemo!). You'll also practice some of the diving skills you learned during the skill sessions.
For your PADI Open Water Diver course you need to complete the study phases before you start diving. For children aged 13 years and above they can choose to complete their pre-study before they come on holiday to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah via PADI eLearning (children 10 - 12 years cannot complete PADI eLearning due to International Internet laws). For children aged between 10 - 12 years they can either come by our office when you are in Kota Kinabalu to complete a pre-study session (the day before their course). Alternatively, we could post your PADI OW manual to you for your child to read it in advance of coming on holiday.
