When staying in Kota Kinabalu (or 'KK' as it is know locally) you can choose to join day trips to Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Springs or Klias Wetlands.
From Sandakan, on the east coast of Sabah, you can easily access the rainforests with a trip to the Kinabatangan River for 2D1N or 3D2N trip. Closer to Sandakan you can join day trips to Sepilok Sanctuary and Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. Accessible by boat transfer from Sandakan is Turtle Island which is a popular destination for a 2D1N trip.
