Telephone
The country code for Malaysia is 60 and you will need to prefix outgoing
international calls with 00.
Public coin and card operated telephone boxes are available all over Sabah.
Cards can be purchased in denominations between Rm3 and Rm50 but there are
two types so you need to use the right card with the right box.
Mobile telephone
GSM 900 and 1800 networks cover practically the whole country. Network
operators include Celcom (www.celcom.com.my), DiGi (www.digi.com.my) and
Maxis (www.maxis.com.my).
Fax
You can find fax facilities in most hotels, post offices and other outlets
all over Sabah.
Internet
There are internet facilities in hotels, internet café’s and many areas in
Kota Kinabalu offer Wifi – some for free, others you pay for your usage by
the hour/day.
Post Offices
These are located in most towns and are open Mon-Sat 8am- 5pm.
Newspapers
There are daily local English language newspapers as well as daily papers in
Bahasa Melayu and Chinese.
It is possible to purchase foreign newspapers but these are limited and will
be a couple of days old.
Television
Depending on where you are staying you will be offered either the local TV
which tends to have most programmes in Bahasa Melayu or a selection of
International TV from the cable network. Radio Radio stations are in Bahasa Melayu, English, Chinese, and Tamil.
