We recently had Mira (from Korea) and her husband Benjamin (from France) join us for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park during their holiday in Kota . “Hello, I’m Mira, a Korean. My husband (Benjamin, French) and I did Scuba Diving with PADI on January 22nd, 2014. The weather was not so good; it was raining and windy, but we were fine in the water. I was so scared because I could only see 30cm in front of me. And also I’m not used to breathing with just my mouth…But thanks to Ian (instructor), a very nice gentle man, I could get comfortable with everything. Obviously he had to put in effort … Sorry again Ian. Also I can’t say how kind you were with me and I will never forget it… Thanks a million. If Ian didn’t encourage me I wouldn’t have seen the sea turtle, the color-changing fish, the Nemo-clown fish, and the variety of other sea life. It was AMAZING!

I highly recommend you guys to do this activity with PADI, Borneo dream. Also the staff there was super nice! The other crew Luke, Gene, boat driver- You guys were awesome! Thanks again for everything. With PADI I felt very comfortable because they always checked everyone’s life vest, they prepared fresh water, candy, and also biscuits and each person got a big towel.
What else… We sent our height, weight and shoe size before we were in Kota Kinabalu, so PADI prepared our diving suit and flippers. We ate a nice lunch at some island. The food there was nice too. Anyway I recommend you to go with PADI, and you will never regret it!!”

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course in Kota Kinabalu

Nadine and Alexis decided during their January holiday in Sabah that they would like complete the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. They came to chat with the Borneo Dream crew whilst they were in Kota Kinabalu and decided we could best meet their needs :-)

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course is a great way to gain more experience and at the same time trying new things. The course consists of 5 open water dives with two compulsory ones. Everyone has to do Navigation and Deep Dive and then you choose three more. Most choose Enriched Air NITROX, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Digital Underwater Photography. Either way Kota Kinabalu is a great place to complete your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course.

PADI Advanced Open Water Course, ready?

Alexis was slightly nervous about completing the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course as she had recently had a diving experience elsewhere that made her feel uncomfortable. We quickly reassured her that our Borneo Dream crew would look after her well (especially as they would have a PADI Instructor just for the two of them – our customers love that we have small groups per Dive Professional) and helped her choose the best speciality dives for herself that would help re-build her confidence, and love, of diving. Check out her smile in the photo!

After the first dive on their PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course, which was Peak Performance Buoyancy, Nadine and Alexis had fine tuned their buoyancy skills and were ready to get the most from the rest of the PADI course dives. Their PADI Instructor, Gene Genie, then helped them to further develop their dive skills and knowledge through their remaining four course dives (Deep Diver, Underwater Navigation, Underwater Digital Photographer and Boat Diver). All their course dives were conducted in the safe, protected waters of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

If you too would like to continue your diver education via the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course, or a PADI Speciality Course, during your holiday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah then just contact the Borneo Dream Team at info@borneodream.com. PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience, Try Dives, with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

We recently had Jun Sang Shin, his brother Min Woo Shin and his mother Jeong Nam Shin join us for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience. They had travelled from Korea for their first holiday to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. They stayed at the Sutera Harbour Resort and dived with us via the Sutera Harbour Dive Centre. His mother had just got back from climbing Mount Kinabalu but this did not stop her from enjoying her first ever Try Dive with her sons in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. She particularly liked having our handsome PADI Instructor Richard looking after her. They had lots of fun, despite the tropical rain, and they now can’t wait until their next scuba diving experience!

On the same day we were also joined by Sharon and Ian from England, and Noel and Ray from Hong Kong. They all were trying scuba diving too via the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience, a one day Try Dive involving a skill session and two fun dives to maximum 12 metres in the tropical waters of TARP, Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. They were joining us from the 5* Gaya Island Resort located on Pulau Gaya. Borneo Dream runs the PADI 5 Star Dive Facility for Gaya Island Resort meaning the guests could board our boats from the Resort Jetty and enjoy a high quality diving experience in small groups per PADI Instructor.

One of the common questions we get asked by our non-diver friends is, “Do you need to be certified to dive?”. The answer is yes, and no. To be able to join leisure diving trips (anywhere in the world) you would need to be certified by a professional diving association like the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, or simply known as PADI. However, there is also a special program offered by PADI that allow you to experience the underwater world as a non-certified diver, a Try Dive experience. This comes in handy for people who want might only want to have a “look see” to see if it’s a sport they might enjoy (most likely yes ;) and maybe would like to further their interest in (get certified).

PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience

PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience, or PADI DSD, is a one day try dive. The PADI Discover Diving Experience involves a short briefing about diving, a confined skills session and with Borneo Dream 2 ocean dives – one shore dive in the morning, and one dive in the afternoon in the tropical waters of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Each skill will be thoroughly explained and demonstrated to you (you get a chance to practice them too!). Your PADI dive instructor will be right there with you to make sure you are comfortable with one skill before you go on to the next!

Become a Scuba Diver!

Join the world of diving!

At the end of the PADI try dive program, each participant will receive a certificate of participation (for you to show off to your friends ;). This certification also credits towards the first internationally recognised certification to dive in an open sea environment – the PADI Open Water Diver Course (if taken within the same holiday with the same PADI Dive Centre). Whether or not you decide to further your diving, you still go back with an experience of a lifetime and a whole new view to the underwater world!

If you would like to know more about the PADI DSD program, just send us an email and we would be more than happy to send you more information!
