Hong Kong Corporate Group Join Borneo Dream for Diving & Snorkeling in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Jackson and his colleagues came to Kota Kinabalu this weekend for a company trip from Hong Kong. This was their second company trip / corporate event in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah over the past three years.

In 2010 Jackson arranged a day trip with Borneo Dream to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park located near Kota Kinabalu to join try dives, snorkeling and fast RIB Rides. The group size for their previous company trip from Hong Kong was 17 persons.

During their most recent company trip to Kota Kinabalu over the weekend Jackson was joined by 32 colleagues. They had such fun last time they came out diving & snorkeling with Borneo Dream that they all joined the Dream Team again for a another day trip to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park located nearby KK, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

They enjoyed guided snorkeling (PADI Discover Snorkeling Experience), try dives (PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience) and more fast RIB Rides. Our three boats – Borneo Dream 3, Borneo Dream Betty and our RIB were allocated to Jackson and his group. They had a fun day out and saw lots underwater as well as enjoyed some beach time. We also may have had the odd scream during their RIB ride experience :)

We look forward to welcoming Jackson and his friends back for a third corporate event to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in the future. See you next time guys!

We have new, full time job vacancy in the Borneo Dream team for a Dive Professional / Marketing Executive. The role will be located within Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo (East Malaysia) – a beautiful, tropical part of the world. This an ideal opportunity for a Dive Professional wanting to get involved in the broader running of a Diving and Tourism business.

The full time role will involve working part the time as a PADI Dive Professional on our boats and across our range of PADI Dive Resorts, and part time delivering marketing and business development activities (covering a broad range of marketing channels) – approx. a 50/50 split.

Tiger Dive Club (Russia) Come Diving with Borneo Dream from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Valeriy from Russia, who runs Tiger Dive Club, recently ran a diving trip to Sabah for a group of experienced divers from his club. As part of their diving holiday, which included diving at world famous Sipadan, they joined Borneo Dream for a scuba diving trip from Kota Kinabalu to the Usukan Bay WW2 wrecks and Mayne Rock.

Valeriy, his wife and eight Tiger Dive Club divers wanted to dive somewhere special from Kota Kinabalu (a mix of Dive Instructors, PADI Rescue Divers and PADI Advanced Open Water Divers and all with at least 200 logged dives). Based on their scuba diving experience we suggested they join us for a dive on the WW2 Rice Bowl Wreck perfect for recreational diving on EANx30 at 25m – 40m in depth. They then joined us for a dive along the unusual landscape at nearby Mayne Rock. Both dive sites are located ~30nm north of Kota Kinabalu.

We ran a private boat charter for them on Borneo Dream 3 – our comfortable, spacious catamaran. We set off at 7:30am for a cruise north from Kota Kinabalu and were ready for starting our first dive on the Rice Bowl Wreck around 9am. There was a slight current and good vis for their first dive. They saw lots of fish life and dived over the wreck adorned with soft and hard corals.

After a surface interval they joined a shallower second, long dive (for diver safety reasons ensuring no-one went in to decompression) around the boulders at Mayne Rock. They explored around the boulders and surrounding coral reef and were suitable impressed by the quality of the corals and marine ,life on both dives. Not bad considering they’d just come from diving at Sipadan :)

On the journey back to Kota Kinabalu they enjoyed homemade chocolate fudge cake, chilled soft drinks and lots of other goodies from the cool box onboard Borneo Dream 3.

Well the Dry Season has started in Sabah, Borneo which means that Borneo Dream is running it’s long distance scuba diving trips from Kota Kinabalu to Mayne Rock, Pulau Tiga and the WW2 Usukan Wrecks.

We ran a scuba diving day trip to Pulau Tiga at the weekend, more famously known as ‘Survivor Island’ (as the first series of USA Survivor was held at Pulau Tiga). We were joined by Augusta, Charlie, Emma, Richard, Tom, Mike, Dan and Wyn as we set off at 8am from Jesselton Point Jetty in central Kota Kinabalu. The sea was calm, the sky blue – a great day of diving lay ahead of us.

We cruised down to Pulau Tiga on Borneo Dream 3 , our comfortable and spacious catamaran. We arrived and kitted up for our first dive at The Pinnacle dive site. The current was slight and visibility was ~20m. We jumped in and started our first dive of the day. We dived around large boulders and coral bombies covered in corals and teaming with fish life. We had a school of Barracuda circle around us before diving through a forest of Black Coral. After a one hour dived we surfaced and opened up the cool box for some surface interval treats (fruit cake mmmm).

Our second dive was at a coral reef 2nm south of Pulau Tiga. The reef was 12m – 20m with mild current and visibility ranging ~15m. We saw large Lobsters, Blue Spotted Rays, various Nudibranches, Batfish, large Puffer Fish and lots more. The dive was so enjoyable it just flew by in time.

After a two very chilled out, beautiful dives we set back on cruise speed to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. As we neared Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park Billy greeted us on our RIB and treated some of the divers to a fast RIB ride – a fun way to end the scuba diving trip!

Scott was already an experienced PADI Advanced Open Water Diver. He completed his PADI Emergency First Responder Course (First Aid) and PADI Rescue Diver Course with Borneo Dream first.

Congratulations to Merete Lund on becoming a PADI Divemaster and a role model Dive Professional! Merete joined Borneo Dream for a six week PADI Divemaster internship during her time in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, East Malaysia.
