Udo Engelhardt - Marine Biology & Conservation
It would not be possible to offer the range of services, or follow our demanding code of practice, without specialist help in some areas. A business is only as good as it’s people and we have chosen our advisors carefully to enable us to offer the best. Udo Engelhardt is an expert in Marine Biology & Conservation with a focus on Coral Reef Ecology & Management, and an adviser to Borneo Dream.Udo was born in Hanau am Main, Germany, and studied in Hanau and Frankfurt before moving to Australia to complete a BSc in Marine Biology and then a postgraduate Diploma of Research Methods at James Cook University, Townsville.
His early professional career involved Crown-of-Thorns starfish research on the Great Barrier Reef where, following promotion to Scientific Programme Coordinator, he assumed responsibility for all aspects of the programme.
Udo is currently the CEO of Reefcare International Pty Ltd (trading in Australia as Reefwatch Australia, Marine Environmental Consulting Services) and, since April 2005, has also been Scientific Director of the D’Arros Research Centre, D’Arros Island, Amirantes, Seychelles. Reefcare is an organization dedicated to the conservation of coral reefs and Udo has undertaken many prestigious assignments for Governments and other authorities in Australia and the Seychelles.
He is a supporting force behind the Reefcare International/WWF/Borneo Dream coalition to monitor and report on coral growth in the Kudat region following the establishment of the Tun Mustapha Marine Park. We will provide more information on this project as it progresses.
